The international event World Plumbing Day occurs annually on March 11. The event is driven by the World Plumbing Council with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO). Of course, we also choose to honour this important professional group.

The plumber’s work saves lives

Have you ever thought about how important the plumber’s work is? Let us list a few points that show how the plumber’s work affects food security, education, and economic development:
•    Clean water is essential to prevent diseases and maintain good hygiene.
•    Functional sanitation, including sewage systems and toilets, prevents the spread of infectious diseases and reduces the risk of waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, and dysentery.
•    Clean water is necessary for producing food and for cooking. Contaminated water can also contaminate food and cause illnesses.
•    Access to clean water and sanitation is essential for children to attend school. If children are sick due to waterborne diseases or if they have to spend time fetching water from remote locations, it can hinder their school attendance.
•    Clean water and sanitation are crucial for economic development. Healthy individuals with access to clean water have greater opportunities to work and contribute to the economy.
•    Clean water and functional sanitation are fundamental human rights and key components of sustainable development.
Do you know a plumber? Congratulations! You have a hero in your circle of acquaintances.
